About Me

Hi! I'm Julia, I live with my now 3 kids, handy husband, 2 cats and 2 dogs in our first home in Lower Hutt.

About time I updated this photo! There's one more child now!

I must admit, I'm a bit of a knitting-nut. Everything I do seems to involve thinking about what I'll be casting on next, the yarn I'll use, Ravelry, shopping and browsing for yarn, finding money for more yarn, Ravelry (again on purpose), Namaste bags, and patterns - and the testing of them for fabulous designers I 'know'.

I've been knitting for probably 20 odd years, Mum painstakingly taught me to knit as a leftie even though she's right-handed. I must admit that some of my techniques used to be a bit wonky but with the help of you-tube I retaught myself how to knit as a right hander. I wanted to be able to knit something as perfectly as the designer had imagined - and since perfecting my techniques I decided to share my love of all things knitted with others.

The custom knitting came about because my gorgeous children often get a lot of comments about the knitted garments they are wearing. I think people are often quite surprised when my Miss 3 chirps 'my mummy made it for me' in response to their compliments. There also seems to be quite a demand for fashionable and practical knitted garments - it's not like you can just pop into any old shop when you realise that winter is coming and your children only have polar fleece tops to keep them warm over the colder months. I am a bit of a perfectionist and always aim for the very best finishing on any garment. I do see myself as someone with a bit of a creative flair too, and knitting seems to have become my outlet for it - my chance to use great combinations of colours to create a one of a kind item.

I've also found people love giving knitted items as gifts for newborns - and why wouldn't they. The yarn we knit with these days is super soft (one of them is called 'luxury' and there's no surprises there that it's lovely), it comes in a range of colours and really is a special and practical gift for someone with a newborn. We all know that they need hats, singlets, and cardis aplenty when they're just teeny.

I'm a one WIP kinda gal. I won't cast on a new project until I have completed the one I started. This could come from the footstool of mangled and abandoned WIPs that my 3 sisters and I used to begin as kids.

Thanks for visiting my blog - feel free to comment on posts and email me any feedback you might have
